Speakers:
Chair - Sandra Potter

Date & Time: Tuesday, 24th August 2010. 12:30PM - 2:00PM

Precis: MEMBER ONLY EVENT

As a follow up for those of you that attended the April VSCL seminar FAQ - search and retrieval for electronically stored information
- What’s “under the hood” in today’s search technology
- Why good technology is not enough
- Knowing how well your search process is working
- Which is the best system?” is the wrong question
Douglas W. Oard, Assoc. Professor, University of Maryland (USA) presented on these topics and many of the attendees expressed an interest in continuing the dialogue around these issues. There were also a number of members that were unable to attend but are interested in the topics covered in this session – to follow this up the VSCL Practice and Procedures Focus Group will continue this dialogue with academics from Melbourne University and RMIT.
This group will initially look at the viability of various R&D projects related to the validation of keyword and concept basis search engines. This may provide independent data validating a best practice approach in the future. Secondly, to deepen our own understanding of how these technologies work and lastly to recommend a curriculum for graduate and post graduate courses related to the practice of eDiscovery.
The first round table dialogue will be on August 24 at 12.30 pm – 2 pm at 365 Little Collins Street, Melbourne in the business centre on the ground floor.
At this meeting we hope to share information with the academics who will be attending on eDiscovery practices in Australia and start a dialogue to achieve the above objectives
We propose the second meeting to be held on November 16 2010 to move the dialogue on from the first meeting.
Please confirm your interest to attend and be involved in this Practice and Procedures Focus Group by registering on the website in the usual manner or email to info@vscl.net

Note that only VSCL members, and invited guests, are eligible to attend PPFG meetings.
Thanks

Sandra Potter
Chair – VSCL Practice and Procedures Focus Group
